Start locally by taking your gold or silver to a reputable local coin shop or jeweler and ask them to estimate its value. We encourage you to see what other stores are offering and believe that you will see that our offer will be far better than anyone else in Southern Indiana!
Don’t Mix Karats.
Don’t let jewelry of different karat value be weighed together. Some dealers will weigh all jewelry together and pay you for the lowest karat value. At Kentuckiana Coin & Jewelry we separate your gold based on the karat hallmarks to ensure you are fairly paid for your items. The higher the karat the higher the gold content of the jewelry.
Have Items Tested.
A reputable buyer will test your items. There are numerous ways to test the gold or silver percentage. Without testing an item you can’t be sure you are receiving a fair amount. At KC&J we conduct at least two tests on each item.
Keep the Items in Sight.
There is no reason for anything to be taken behind closed doors. The associate evaluating your gold should do this in front of you. When you bring your items into our store we will walk you through the entire process from start to finish and your items will never leave your line of sight.
A buyer should never just eyeball the item and guess at the value. To ensure you get a fair value for your gold or silver, make sure the items are first separated by karat and then weighed on a legal for trade scale that has been approved by the NTEP.
Take Coins to a Coin Store.
You wouldn’t take your BMW to a Ford dealership for service, so don’t take your coins to a jewelry store. Understanding the true numismatic value of a coin is very important when selling or getting an appraisal. Kentuckiana Coin & Jewelry has a history of over 25 years buying and selling coins and we are ready to assist you in determining the true value of your items.
Bring your ID.
If your buyer does not ask to see your ID, take your business elsewhere as law requires sellers to provide a government-issued id. If a buyer does not ask for your ID you should question the legitimacy of the buyer.
